Options

From SweepMe! Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

The Options dialog holds the program-wide settings of SweepMe!. Open it via File → Options…. Click OK to close the dialog. Options marked with (Pro) require a SweepMe! Pro license; without it, they are grayed out and SweepMe! uses the default values.

General

  • Unit style: How the name of a variable and its unit are combined, e.g. in the column headers of the measurement data files. Select one of the styles or type your own:
    • <variable> [<unit>] (default), e.g. Voltage [V]
    • <variable> (<unit>)
    • <variable> / <unit>
    • <variable> in <unit>
A custom style must start with <variable> and contain <unit>. Otherwise, SweepMe! restores the default style when you close the dialog.
  • Portable: Switches SweepMe! to portable mode, e.g. to run it from a USB stick. In portable mode, the user data is stored in the folder SweepMe! user data next to the program folder instead of the usual Windows folders (see Folder system). Restart SweepMe! after changing this option.

Shortcuts

The tab lists the keyboard shortcuts of the run controls. They cannot be changed.

Action Shortcut
Run ⇧ Shift+Alt+R
Stop ⇧ Shift+Alt+S
Pause ⇧ Shift+Alt+P

All other shortcuts are listed on the page Keyboard shortcuts.

Saving

Plot images

  • Save thumbnail: png (checked by default), pdf, svg. Images of the Plot widgets are saved in the selected formats together with the measurement data.

Data export (from version 1.5.8.7)

  • Text files (.txt): Checked by default. If unchecked, the automatically created .txt result files are removed from the result folder after the run. Files written by your own scripts, e.g. by CustomFunction, are kept, and the temporary folder always keeps a .txt copy of the run.
  • Excel (.xlsx) (Pro): Unchecked by default. After each completed or stopped run, SweepMe! creates an Excel workbook next to the .txt result files.

See Saving data#Options for details.

Change Tracking

Enable (Pro) and Disable switch Change Tracking on and off. When it is enabled, the tab shows the button Snapshot (save a versioned snapshot of the current state) and the list View snapshots with the selection Branch: and the columns Date / Time, Message, Author and Commit. Right-click a snapshot and select Restore to Folder… to extract its files.

See Change Tracking for details.

Paths (Pro)

  • Use custom data path: Check the box and click Choose path to save the measurement data to another folder than the default folder Measurement in the public SweepMe! folder. See Saving data#Custom data path (Pro).
  • Use custom sequences path: Check the box and click Choose path to use another folder than the default folder Sequences for your sequences.
  • Text editor: Click Change editor to select the program that SweepMe! uses to open text files, e.g. drivers via Open version in editor in the Version Manager. The default is Programmer's Notepad, which comes with SweepMe!.
  • User-defined source paths for drivers, custom functions, etc. (from version 1.5.8.3): Click Configure source paths… to add folders from which SweepMe! loads further drivers, modules and CustomFunction scripts, e.g. a shared network folder. The dialog Configure source paths has the tabs Drivers, Modules and CustomFunction. Each tab has a table with the columns Key and Path and the buttons Add and Remove. The built-in sources are grayed out and cannot be changed. The keys pre-installed, installed, custom, online and setting are reserved. Click Apply to save the changes. Source paths cannot be changed while a measurement is running.

Sequencer

  • Add MakeFile automatically if missing: Checked by default. If a sequence does not contain a MakeFile module when a run starts, SweepMe! adds one at the top of the Sequencer with all modules as its children, so that the measurement data can be saved.
  • Highlight branches: Currently not available (grayed out).

Ports

Prologix GPIB controller: Click Add port and enter the COM port of a Prologix GPIB-USB controller, e.g. COM23. The port must start with COM and end with a number. The GPIB instruments connected to the controller then appear as GPIB resources, e.g. in the Port manager. Select a port in the list and click Remove port to remove it. See Supported ports#Prologix controller.

Server connection

  • Do you allow SweepMe! to connect to the SweepMe! server? Check Yes, always to allow it. The connection is used to notify you about updates and critical bugs, to download additional modules and drivers in the Version Manager, and to help improve the interoperability of program components. The tab links to the privacy policy.
  • Proxy server: Optionally enter the Host (e.g. proxy.example.com) and the Port (e.g. 5678) of a proxy server if your network requires one.
